Step of Faith

Sometimes the future is scary, or the journey forward involves pain that we don’t want to face. It is easy to stop and stay in the place we are at. After all, it is comfortable even if it isn’t ideal, it is known. Our human mind convinces us that even if we are in a bad or an uncomfortable situation, it is easier to cope than face the unknown. I admit I have been there so many times.

We must remember that God is already on the other side of where we are, providing a way for us to move forward. He knows the path we will take, the potholes we will face, the hills we will climb, and the valleys we will walk through. The step he is asking us to take forward may be one of the most challenging steps we will ever make; however, it is a step of faith, saying, “God, I believe that you are there, and I trust you in this journey.”

We have so many examples of this faith in the Bible. Here are just a few:

*When God told Noah to build an ark, he got busy.

*When God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, he started the journey up the hill.

*When God told Moses to walk through the Red Sea, he led the Israelites forward.

*When Jesus called his disciples, they dropped everything and followed.

All of these men had one thing in common, a faith that their God will provide a way. The same God that provided a way for them is there waiting for us to take that step forward. Hebrews 13:8 states this promise clearly,

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (ESV)

Yes, it is scary. You may be facing a new job, life without a loved one, a frightening medical diagnosis, whatever it is, trust God to walk with you every step of the way. He will not leave you alone.

Dear Heavenly Father, Let us remember that whatever we are facing, you already have a plan on how to help us through it. We may not understand it, and we may even question why we have to walk through it; however, we will depend on you to help us each step of the way. Lord. As we take that first step of faith forward, wrap your loving arms around us and let us feel your presence and strength guiding us. Thank you, Lord, for loving us and being our protector, provider, and our Lord. In Jesus’s name, we pray, Amen
