I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19
Do you create pictures in your head as you read? I do, and today’s verse painted a beautiful picture of God’s graciousness to us.
I will make a way in the wilderness…
Webster defines wilderness as an uncultivated, uninhabited, and inhospitable region. Imagine being lost in the woods in the middle of nowhere. Others have yet to form a path that you can cautiously follow. You are stuck in the middle, looking for a way out. That is where we can find ourselves in life. It can happen due to our own choices or through life circumstances. So often, we try to find our way out, only to get stuck deeper and deeper into the woods of confusion, pain, and heartbreak. Our God promises that He will never leave us there. We must follow his directions in Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and He will make straight your paths. He is faithful to His word and will guide us out of the darkness.
Rivers in the Desert
I have never been in a desert, so I can’t imagine how hot and dry it is. However, I have been so thirsty after a run that I can’t stop drinking water. The water tasted so good and refreshing. It fulfilled a longing that my body needed. I have also been so spiritually dry that my soul ached from desperation. God was there for me and reminded me in His word that He is the Living water that our souls need. As He told the Samaritan woman in John 4:14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water.
That spring of water is everlasting Hope that we can rest assured that we have all we need in Him.
Two of the most dangerous places where people can be lost are the wilderness and the desert; God knew what he was doing by choosing those words. His followers had survived with Him, and He knows that we can too as long as we trust Him.
Dear Lord, We are thankful that we can trust you will be there to guide us and provide a path through the wilderness and deserts in our lives. We know that you will never leave or forsake us. Thank you for the Hope that we have in Jesus. In Jesus’s name, we pray, Amen.
