Soaking in the Light

There is something to be said about just walking outside and soaking up the sunshine, especially after a few rainy days. The same is true for soaking up the Light that Jesus provides us during and after the many storms we will face.

Psalm 23 is a wonderful chapter to meditate on during the storms of life.

I remember one particular day when I was a young girl, and we were in the middle of a tornado warning. We had flipped the couch over.  I was hiding under it, reciting Psalm 23. It comforted me and helped me remember that God was there with me.

When my mom was sick, she often turned this chapter into a prayer seeking comfort.

Each verse has such a powerful message of Hope.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

A shepherd will always ensure that their sheep have all they need and keep them safe. In Matthew 6:25, Jesus says,

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

We can trust that he is going to take care of our physical needs as well as our spiritual needs.

He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters

I love the picture this paints. I see a sunny day where the sun shines as we sit beside a river with our eyes upward, praising God for the moment’s stillness.

God tells us in Psalm 46:10,  Be still and know that I am God.

He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

He has us in His hands, and we can trust Him in the path He has laid out for us, no matter what that path has in store for us.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me

During these times it may be more difficult to see the Light that God has for us to follow, but this is where you must ask Him to help you be still so you can remember his promises, like the one in Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.

The storms will try to blow us off course, but we must remember who is in control of that storm and seek shelter and refuge in Him. He will see us to the other side.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows

In this life, we will face persecution and trials, but as John 16:33 states, “Take Heart, For I have overcome this world” – Our cup overflows with God’s love and promises.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Revelation 21:23 states And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.

So friends, when the rainy days come, and trust me, they will. Remember to sit at His feet and rest in His presence. Soak in the calm, warmth, and peace only His light can provide. He will pierce through the darkness and help you find your way.
