Finding Rest in God

Have you ever been so tired that you couldn’t handle anything else emotionally, physically you couldn’t be asked to do one more thing; mentally, you couldn’t put two thoughts together? Then on top of all that, you felt numbed spiritually?

We have all been there; however, we often get there because we forget that we don’t have to manage this world using our strength. God wants us to rely on Him and trust Him to help us face the trials of life.

Here are some verses that have helped me over the past couple of weeks. I hope that these lift your spirits and remind you that God is there for you also.

Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Read this verse carefully; it says all your anxiety. To rest in God, we must give it all to Him. So often, I think I can take care of the small stuff, that God is so busy with the big stuff I don’t want to bother Him. He wants you to trust Him completely, which means surrender it all. Like the old hymnal, I Surrender All. All to Jesus I surrender All to Him I freely give. He is waiting to help you with every situation you face, big or small.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

He wants us to come to Him to find a rest unlike any other. This is the soul comforting; no matter how crazy life seems, it will be okay, rest. It is a rest that helps you honestly say, “It is well with my Soul.”

Two of my favorite verses to hold close to my heart during difficult times are from the book of Isaiah.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41:10

“but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:31

Tonight if you feel exhausted beyond measure, rest assured God sees you, find your rest in Him, sit at His feet and soak in His loving grace. He will provide the strength you need.
